Founded in 1974, Arts Project Australia is the first full-time art studio in Australia for artists with an intellectual disability. For over forty years, APA has regularly provided significant opportunities for artists through its online and offline programs including collaborations, curatorial projects, professional development, national and international commercial gallery representation, workshops, residencies, mentoring, and paid internships. APA represents and promotes its artists worldwide through published initiatives on its website as well as cultivating exhibitions, peer to peer projects, essays, and commercial opportunities.

APA artists have gained significant international notoriety, including Alan Constable who exhibited in ‘Semiotic Terrain: Art from Australia and New Zealand’ at Salon 94, New York (2021), Lisa Reid who will exhibit ceramic sculptures at the Australian Embassy in Washington DC (2021) with DUTTON Gallery, New York and Julian Martin exhibited in ‘Nicolas Party: Pastel’ at The FLAG Art Foundation, New York. APA artist Monica Lazzari will soon work with UK collector Valeria Napoleone on a new curating collections project.

In 2021/22, Arts Project Australia programs will be focused on delivering innovative IRL and online exhibitions, workshops and projects for artists encompasses international with Art et al., local through Who’s Afraid of Public Space and an adaptive response to the current state of the world in Satellite Arts professional mentorship.

A creative social enterprise providing support for individuals with intellectual disabilities, Arts Project Australia is a not-for-profit organisation promoting artists' work and advocating for inclusion within contemporary art practice. Since its inception, Arts Project Australia has continued to strive for excellence, both in the quality of the exhibitions presented at the Collingwood Yards space and the quality of the innovative studio program attended by 150+ artists at their Northcote location and online (Satellite Arts).
