Relax and enjoy free events as part of Boroondara’s Summer in the Park series

Boroondara Arts is inviting audiences to enjoy a series of free outdoor movies and live performances taking place in beautiful local parks every weekend from 30 January to 14 March. Friends and families can get together for the 2021 Summer in the Park series, sit in Boroondara’s gorgeous parks and gardens and enjoy the likes of jazz, Latin, classical and opera music, as well as comedy and cinema sessions.

There will be 33 free events and audiences can choose from three sessions per day all presented in a fun and COVID-19 safe environment.  Bookings are essential to ensure a spot, but for those who don’t manage to snap up a ticket, selected events will be live streamed and available to enjoy from home. Summer in the Park is the perfect place to enjoy live performances, while picnicking in Boroondara’s stunning parks.

Jazz in the Park, Central Gardens, Hawthorn (Saturday 30 January) and Fairview Park, Hawthorn (Sunday 31 January) – 12noon, 2.30pm and 5.30pm. The series begins with soothing sounds of jazz, bringing the parks to life with perfect picnic music.

Cinema in the Park, Hays Paddock, Kew East (Saturday 6 February) and Riversdale Park, Camberwell (Sunday 7 February) – 12noon, 2.30pm and 5.30pmSit back, relax and enjoy a movie in the park. The film will be announced closer to the time and will be a family-friendly classic best enjoyed nestled on a picnic rug with loved ones.

Classical in the Park, Maranoa Gardens, Balwyn (Saturday 20 February) 10am, 12.30pm and 3pm – Fritsch Holzer Park, Hawthorn East (Sunday 21 February) – 12noon, 2.30pm and 5.30pm. Enjoy a unique combination of instruments played by Duo Eclettico, a saxophone-piano ensemble consisting of award-winning international virtuoso pianist, Coady Green and up and coming saxophonist Justin KenealyThe Rathdown Trio (pictured above left) will also dazzle audiences with their mesmerising performances, featuring Japanese-Australian muso Kyla Matsuura-Miller with Melbourne’s Molly Collier-O’Boyle on viola and James Morley on cello.

Latin in the Park, Alexandra Gardens, Kew (Saturday 27 February) and Markham Reserve, Ashburton (Sunday 28 February) – 12noon, 2.30pm and 5.30pm. Talented guitarist Nathan Slater will perform his eclectic classical and modern jazz sounds, while Valentino (pictured above right) will bring an energetic flair to his park performances.

Comedy in the Park, Sir William Angliss Reserve, Hawthorn East (Saturday 6 March) – 12noon, 2.30pm and 5.30pmThis new addition to the series will see audiences in fits of laughter as comedians Alice Tovey, Patrick Collins and Claire Healy grab the mic for fantastic cabaret comedy sets.

Opera in the Park, Canterbury Gardens, Canterbury (Saturday 13 March) and Anderson Park, Hawthorn East (Sunday 14 March) – 12noon, 2.30pm and 5.30pm

Audiences can enjoy beautiful opera performed by the award-winning operatic soloists, Adrian TamburiniEddie Muliaumaseali’iSuzanne Shakespeare, Sarah Sweeting and Jodie Lockyer. Powerful vocals will echo through the park to bring the musical series to a close.
