South Yarra’s Zhou Zhou is inviting whisky lovers to experience one of Japan’s most established and celebrated whisky brands, Nikka Whisky, in a tasting night complete with canapés from the Oriental Teahouse back-bar on Tuesday 29 January.
The evening will be hosted by Nikka Brand Ambassador Kevin Griffin, in an intimate tasting session that will also feature two special cask strength bottlings straight from the distillery and unavailable for purchase in Australia – their exact identities to be revealed on the night.
Founder Masataka Taketsuru is known as the father of Japanese whisky . As a young Japanese man, T aketsuru travelled to Scotland in the early 1900s as a whisky apprentice, mastering the chemistry of the coveted drop, then returning to Japan years later to launch his own independent whisky that complemented the cool climate and crisp air of his home country.
Nikka Whisky was one of the first emerging Japanese whisky companies, with much success achieved through Nikka’s two unique distilleries that will be spotlighted on the night: Yoichi and Miyagikyo.
For $94 per person, experience the core range, including:
- Nikka ‘From the Barrel’
- Nikka Coffey Grain
- Nikka ‘Taketsuru’ Pure Malt
- Nikka ‘Miyagiko’ Single Malt
- Nikka ‘Yoichi’ Single Malt
Upon arrival, guests will receive a Nikka Whisky Highball and welcomed with finger-food such as baos, spring rolls and more, before tastings become underway. Join Kevin Griffin in a night not to be missed, tasting through a superb line-up of unique flavour profiles and learning more about Japanese fine whisky and the Nikka legacy.
Zhou Zhou Bar is the resident drinking den found upstairs at Oriental Teahouse. The upstairs bar has one of the most extensive Japanese whisky collections in Melbourne, despite aged statement and single malt whisky being difficult to source throughout Australia.
