Melbourne’s iconic Mamasita and sibling restaurant Hotel Jesus have combined forces for a ‘staff favourites’ hybrid menu showcasing dishes from past and present available for delivery and pick up. The MAMASITA X HOTEL JESUS collaboration features a wholesome offering of Mexican ‘slow food’, cooked with time, love and packed for sharing. Signature margaritas, Mexican and local craft beers and wine normally only available to the restaurant can be delivered to your door.
To assist with the launch, $2 Taco Tuesdays are back for a short time only. Serves are five for $10 with 50 serves available on Tuesdays until sold out.
Just a few examples of the delicious menu include:
- Mamasita’s chargrilled corn with cotija and chipotle mayo
- Beef Barbacoa, spicy chicken skin or fried prawn tacos
- Ensenada fried fish burritos
- Hotel Jesus’ famous lamb ribs with pistachio and salsa macha (pictured)
- Mamasita’s Mexican roast chicken
The menu features a few iconic dishes from both restaurants coupled with a rotation of new additions. There is also a weekly Staff Meal which can be enjoyed now or reheated for later. Each staff meal will celebrate International Temporary Visa Holders from the team and is inspired by a dish from their childhood. First up is from sous chef Miguel from Colombia, who will be treating customers to the dish Frijoles Paisas o Antioqueños – from the Antioquia region.
Miguel explains: “I’ve eaten it all of my life and it is definitely one of my favourite dishes. Few meals are as truly Colombian as this. We serve it over rice or as part of our famous Colombian dish “Bandeja Paisa” which is a huge meal including, paisa pinto beans, white rice, plantain, Colombian chorizo, avocado, chicharron (pork fritters), ground beef and fried egg.”
Mamasita recently celebrated its 10th anniversary, honouring the early days and celebrating their staff members and the loyal customers who all made reaching that milestone possible. With the pandemic forcing the closure of the restaurant as well as sibling venue Hotel Jesus, co-owner Matt Lane has reopened with a takeaway and delivery offering that helps keep his valued team employed and to keep fans fed with tasty food. The drivers are likely to have been your wait person, or one of the chefs who cooked your last meal, or Matt Lane himself. All are getting involved.
There are three options to get your hands on the tasty menu items, all of which support local business, local staff and the local economy:
