Jake Mason Trio take to the stage at Hawthorn Arts Centre

Friday 19 March

The Jake Mason Trio will perform their signature mix of bluesy soul-jazz on Friday 19 March in the beautiful Chandelier Room at the Hawthorn Arts Centre. Stepping out from the driver’s seat of Cookin’ On 3 Burners, Jake Mason leads the trio on Hammond Organ, with Danny Fischer on drums and James Sherlock on guitar.

With a nod to 60s inspired Hammond jazz, the trio weave their way through familiar sounds of soul-jazz with a fresh 2021 slant on it.

Released in 2018, the trio’s debut release “The Stranger in The Mirror” picked up an ARIA nomination for Best Jazz Album 2018. The record has catapulted the trio into a 60s organ sound that is both delicate yet fiery.

Best known for his work with Cookin’ On 3 Burners, Jake Mason is a multi-instrumentalist and prolific songwriter who has released twelve albums, gained multi-platinum sales worldwide and established his own label and production house.

Danny Fischer is a highly passionate drum teacher/educator/historian. Danny continues to perform and record with many of Australia’s top improvising musicians including Vince Jones, Joe Chindamo while also performing with countless visiting European and American musicians.

James Sherlock works with a variety of Australia’s finest musicians as well as many visiting artists including New Orleans trumpeter Leroy Jones, New York jazz vocalists Sheila Jordan, Chris McNulty and Cyrille Aimee and master drummers Jeff ‘Tain’ Watts and Jon Riley. The James Sherlock Trio was featured in the ABC TV Jazz Series “The Pulse”.

This special one-night-only show is a chance to see the trio shine in the intimate setting of the Chandelier Room at Hawthorn Arts Centre.

‘These guys have really excelled themselves in pushing the boundaries of soul-jazz and on the quality of what’s on offer, a scintillating killer of epic proportions.’ –Blues & Soul, 2018
