An international feast for Mother’s Day

Launching in just two weeks’ time, this year’s Good Beer Week is one of the most international yet, with guests from more than 20 international breweries touching down in Melbourne from May 11-20. From London to Los Angeles, Shanghai to South America, Good Beer Week 2018 is a who’s who of international brewing talent.

If you’re looking to add some international flavour to your good beer experience, head to Le Bon Ton & Brooklyn Brewery on Monday 14 May to explore the delicious brews of the New York brewery matched to Le Bon Ton’s American inspired cuisine. Meanwhile, local brewery Moon Dog will be hosting Shanghai’s Great Leap Brewery at their Leaping The Dog dinner with Red Spice Road (Friday 18 May). US brewery Lagunitas will also be in town, showing off their incredible brews at the Great Northern Hotel on Thursday 17 May.

Like something sweet? Get Milodramatic and immerse yourself in a uniquely blended chocolate malt milkshake breakfast stout. The drink is a collaboration brew between Footscray’s Mr. West and Ontario-based Canadian brewery Collective Arts, containing ingredients such as chocolate, Milo and lactose.  A representative from Collective Arts, Dan Johnston, will also be making the trip over to Australia to take part in the GBW festivities (Saturday 19 May).

But who can forget Mother’s Day is quickly approaching too! Good Beer Week offers plenty of opportunities to celebrate with the best women in your life, with a smorgasbord of events perfect for mums on Sunday 13 May.

Discover food and beer pairing with a session at Boatrocker Beer School at Beer DeLuxe Fed Square as they take you through the Cut, Complement and Contrast of different matches. If Mum prefers the sweeter side of life, the Beer-vonshire Tea at Cherry Tree Hotel (1pm) has a buffet of treats, cheese and even rose petal infused beers.

Two Birds Brewing is celebrating all things women with Fempocalypse – a full day featuring female creators, musicians, performers, and more at their tasting room in Spotswood. Or if you’re looking further north, the Dan O’Connell Hotel’s Family Fun Day is great for young families with carnival games, tasty food and beers from local breweries. In Collingwood, Stomping Ground celebrates with Mum’s The Word – a perfect afternoon for mum or the special woman in your life, including beers made by mums of the Stomping Ground brewing team. Or if you’re keen for an afternoon of live music, The Fox Hotel in Collingwood is celebrating Girl Power with local female musicians and a line-up of brews all made by women.

No matter what mum’s into, there are more than enough options to keep her busy during Good Beer Week 2018. After all, good beer isn’t just for Dad!

Good Beer Week is an independent and not-for-profit festival that celebrates and promotes the renaissance that craft beer is enjoying globally. Since festival’s inception in 2011, its central aim is to promote good beer and the community and culture that surround it.
