Good Beer Week has been part of Victoria’s landscape for a decade. Creating sell-out events across memorable sites from St Paul’s Cathedral, the top of the Melbourne Star, to Vue De Monde, Puffing Billy, and beyond; Good Beer Week loves exploring new, unique drinking spaces and hard to reach places.
A new stream for this year’s festival is Active Beers — launched in conjunction with Bridge Road Brewers, as the name suggests beer-fans can expect a healthy dose of brews and the great outdoors. It highlights events that showcase the importance of balancing quality beer while leading an active lifestyle. Highlights include:
Cans at the ‘Tan — get out and get moving with a lap of Melbourne’s most famous loop; The Tan. Walk, jog, run or sprint, no matter how you get around on foot, be rewarded with an ice-cold can for every lap completed. The free event takes place on Saturday 15th May from 9am-12pm. BYO sweatbands.
Kicking off from Curve Cycling in Abbotsford at 9am, gear up for a 60km bike ride that traverses the paths, gutters and backtrails of greater Melbourne for a morning of two-wheel adventure on Sunday 16th May. The morning ride for the Brunswick Bike + Beer Bash is open to all budding cyclists, then from 12pm onwards, the Brunswick Velodrome will transform into a beer party post-ride, including activities for the wider community, food and beers for $10 entry.
After losing to team Two Birds last year, The Great Dodgeball Slam (pictured left) returns in 2021 and the BentSpoke crew are demanding a re-match. Taking over Two Birds in Spotswood and in partnership with the Australian Dodgeball Federation and BentSpoke Brewing Co, the day of elimination style dodgeball is suited to all skill levels, complete with a Pro and Underdog competition. Tickets are $95 (inclusive of six players and two drinks each) and teams will be fuelled up to dodge, duck, dip, and dive! On Saturday 22 May, expect pumping tunes, ice-cold tinnies, food-truck fare and a variety of prizes on offer, including the best dressed teams of the day and an after-party once all balls have been dodged.
Surf ‘n’ Turf with the crew from URBNSURF and Three Blue Ducks (pictured top right) in the ultimate mix of waves, hydration and nourishment. The Tubular Trinity exclusively takes over the point and lagoon at URBNSURF, Tullamarine, Australia’s largest man-made surf park, on Sunday 23 May from 11am–2pm. Open to both beginners as well as ‘the point’ intermediate level surfers, after an hour in the surf, be treated to a delightful pint of Bridge Road Brewers, followed by a beer matched lunch from Three Blue Ducks.
The tenth annual Good Beer Week takes place over ten days from May 14 – 23, 2021 with over 200 events taking place around Melbourne and regional Victoria.
Now presented by the Independent Brewers Association (IBA), Good Beer Week, the biggest beer week in the Southern Hemisphere, is an independent and not-for-profit festival that celebrates and promotes the renaissance that beer is enjoying globally. Since the festival’s inception in 2011, its central aim is to promote good beer and the community and culture that surround it.
