KINDRED PEOPLE
Presented by Monash University, Kindred People is a powerful new Indigenous-led festival held across the University’s campuses on Kulin Country. From 1–5 September 2026, the festival brings together artists, Elders, Knowledge Holders, and communities from across the globe to celebrate First Nations arts, culture, and wisdom. Curated by Gunditjmara man Tom Molyneux and guided by an Indigenous Steering Committee, Kindred People transforms Monash into a vibrant space of ceremony, creativity, and connection.
The festival’s visual identity was created in collaboration with acclaimed Gumbaynggirr artist Aretha Brown, whose artwork captures the heartbeat of contemporary Blak expression. Guiding the cultural narrative is Professor N’arwee’t Carolyn Briggs AM, Senior Boon Wurrung Elder, who worked closely with the creative team to ensure Boon Wurrung knowledge and philosophy remain at the heart of the festival’s story.
Through performance, visual art, discussion, and design, Kindred People celebrates Indigenous knowledge as living, evolving, and deeply connected to Country. It is a gathering of kin—where ancient wisdom meets contemporary ideas, and where culture, creativity, and connection guide us toward shared healing and change.
