Midsumma Carnival 2019 – An All-day and All-night Celebration

The feel-good summer vibes will flow along the banks of the Yarra once again when Midsumma Carnival gets the party started for 23 days of Midsumma Festival 2019, with a flurry of glitter, stalls and fine tunes on Sunday 20 January, 11am – 10 pm.

Headlining T-Dance on the Main Stage (6-10pm) will be Melbourne’s rising star: R&B groove child Maribelle (pictured), who captured hearts worldwide with her debut EP ‘Overtake’ (1.1M streams), recorded in a home studio built lovingly by her father in his garage. Siting influences such as Prince, Janet and Michael Jackson, the 23 year old’s latest single ‘I’m a Mess Without You’ is a raw, honest exploration of her first relationship with another woman. The triple-threat singer-songwriter-producer and self-confessed suburban girl signed to Falcona last year, joining the likes of Alison Wonderland, Miami Horror and Hot Dub Time Machine, as well as running her own label with her cousin, Crush Club Records.

Firing up the decks for T-Dance will be Russian-born, Sydney-based DJ royalty Sveta – who has played alongside the likes of Derrick Carter, The Presets, Frankie Knuckles, Kylie Minogue, The Scissor Sisters and Boy George – DJ Ruby Slippers, who has been rocking the east coast club circuit for the past three years with her fun, dirty, sweaty sets, and Mardi Gras favourite DJ Dom de Sousa. There’s also lashings of homegrown Melbourne talent, including popular power couple The Huxleys, transporting all into their usual brand of sequined insanity, queer synth-pop duo The Marion Cranes, who have recently dropped their latest single: a funk-fuelled slice of shimmering disco called ‘Wondering’, and Huntly, who have built a reputation as one of Australia’s most evocative live electronic acts.
