Internationally acclaimed pastry and dessert chef Christy Tania will be making an appearance on MasterChef Australia tonight at 7:30pm, for the fourth year in a row. Contestants will be challenged to create her Floating Ice-cream dish.
After the episode airs, the talented chef will tease the public with pop-ups in Melbourne (Prahan Market, 25 – 28 May) and Sydney (TBC) before opening her new first permanent venue, Glacé, in Windsor this August.
Customers at the pop-up will be able to choose from two varieties of Christy’s Floating Ice-cream: vanilla and cherry cognac (the original MasterChef flavour) and an additional chocolate and cherry cognac option. They will be available for $30 each.
Christy, who is considered to be one of the most respected pastry experts in the industry, first made her appearance on MasterChef in 2014, making her the youngest pastry chef judge to be invited on the show. Since then, she has continued to amaze and inspire contestants and the audience watching at home with her ‘whimsical-meets-elegance creations’ such as the Mystique and the Mango Al-fonso.
“MasterChef keeps asking us chefs to create something better, bigger, fresher and more unique – so it’s an absolute challenge professionally for us too, to one-up ourselves from our own past performances,” says Christy.
In 2013, Christy was appointed as head chef of the only dessert-themed five-star boutique hotel in Australia, Om Nom located at the Adelphi Hotel in Melbourne. Within two months of opening, Christy notably gained the dessert bar its first chef’s hat.
Formerly working as the executive pastry chef at the Langham and Augustus Gloop Gelatery, she continues to break boundaries and challenge herself by opening up her own store Glacé. The store will open in Windsor this August, however, Christy will be giving fans a sneak-peek of what to expect, with a pop-up appearing in Melbourne at the Prahran Market from the 25 – 28 of May, where the Floating Ice-cream will be exclusively available for four days.
Glacé will form a welcoming and stylish space for sweet tooths to enjoy a little piece of Christy’s magic themselves. Patrons will enjoy an expansive range of inventive and unusual ice cream flavours using Australian ingredients, available wholesale and custom made, as well as exquisite artisanal frozen desserts. Christy’s trademark creations will include ice cream push pops, which combine cake sponge and layered ice cream, as well as tube ice creams.
Glacé will be established in the Melbourne food scene as the place to go to enjoy exciting and delicious ice creams and desserts, educating the public about Christy’s unique approach to ice cream.
